To a Special Mama

I've been filled with sadness, sadness for a friend, a friend I have yet to meet but have known for 3 years.  I can not even begin to imagine the pain she is going through, to lose a child, a child that didn't have a chance to see life.

I guess I really should be saying that OUR Group, the wonderful group of April (Awesome) Mama's hearts have been filled with sadness. As one of our Mama's had to say good bye to her baby, born to the arms of heaven. There were many tears being shed across the country this past weekend, when our friend updated us that Baby Jacob was born to heaven.  It is just unfair, life can be unfair and there are no right words to say.  I wish there was something to say that could bring some comfort, something to make her pain a bit less....

Perhaps they are not the stars, but rather openings in Heaven where the love of our lost ones pours through and shines down upon us to let us know they are happy.

When those we love have left this earth, we still can feel them near. We'll see a picture, hear a song, and it’s just like they are here. And when we call upon our faith, when we believe and trust, we know the ones we care about are always close to us.

(Nearly) Wordless Wednesday ~ Surgery edition!

The night before Jaelon's surgery, our friend dropped off a little care package for him!

The morning of surgery, Jello for breakfast!

Playing before, looking so cute and having fun with Papa!

Way to cute in his hospital gown!

Pretty tired and now drugged up, with only minutes to go!
Three days later, feeling super, we had a Mommy and Jaelon lunch date at the market! He loves Sweet potato fries :D

Second eye surgery!

This past Monday was Jaelon's second eye surgery. He was born with (I've always referred to as) a type of lazy eye, called Intermittent Exotropia, Here is a quick read up on it if you're interested.  His first surgery was back in May 2011 and it was very rough sailing, this second surgery went nice and smooth. Such a drastic change and not at all what I was expecting but I was prepared this time so that may have helped a bit.  He's recovered well, though not right back into his playful self, he was happy (except when it was time for eye drops!) and hungry!!!  Yesterday, we went out and registered him for Parent & Tot gymnastics and swimming, had a quick visit with Papa at work and had a healthy and tasty lunch at the Market (A grilled chicken with goat cheese, roasted red peppers and spinach sandwhich with a side order of Sweet potato fries!) It was a great morning out. I'm quite excited for him to start the gymnastics class, how cute will he (and the other little 2-3yr olds) be rolling and tumbling into big pits filled with foam pieces and jumping on the trampoline?  He should have a ton of fun!!!  All things considering it hasn't been a bad week (I know it's only Thursday), I'm happy surgery is done and this is IT. Yes, he'll have to wear glasses somewhere down the road but we'll have no more surgeries to deal with, well at least no more surgeries on eye's anyways ;) It has been a pretty easy, somewhat quiet week with no plans but since he is doing so well, I think we will be at our playgroup tomorrow. It feels strange not doing much at all so it'll be nice to get out another day this week!

Weekend wrap up!!

It was a great and very busy weekend here, my niece, Alexa, was here for a sleepover. She came in Friday after school, I made a pizza dough earlier in the day and split it in half. She loved rolling out her own dough and putting her own toppings on. Jaelon got to do the same but had some help! Then of course it was bathtime after dinner or I should say a quick wash/shower. Here comes the BIG props and I mean HUUUGGGEE PROPS to the single mom's with more than one child!! I don't think that single mothers get enough credit but single mothers with more than one child, WOW a big round of applause to you! I am thankful for my one, I am really thankful that I feel complete and done (95% of the time). I'm also really thankful that IF for some reason I start to think "oh I could do one more child" I get to spend the weekend with just Alexa and Jaelon, putting that little thought right out of my head!!  Yes, it was a super busy but wonderful weekend. Single mama's to more than one, I'm sure you're doing a great job, I'd salute you if that weren't weird!!!

Saturday, was our busiest day, we went to a kid's workshop and did a super, ultra fast pick up of things I forgot at the grocery store. Came back home, I did a quick clean up of the kitchen, we had lunch, Jaelon went down for a nap, Alexa and I made some cookies and some jello in oranges. I did put in a load of laundry, finished baking the cookies (I didn't even burn one batch!) I did the clean up from our baking extravaganza which by then it was time to get started on dinner and make sure Jaelon was awake from his nap.  The kiddies had a fun naked spaghetti night, the cookies were a nice desert and snack before bed. I was ready to drop of course!

Sunday, we had bacon and eggs for breakfast, usually one of Alexa's favourites but of course this time she wasn't to in to it. That turned into a bit of a tug and war, in the end I won!!! We got ready and headed out for church, we were late of course but we made it none the less. It was souper Sunday so we stayed afterwards, they said a sweet prayer for Jaelon and after a good extra hour we were back home again! It wasn't such a busy day, Alexa and I went for a walk in the cold snow, Jaelon was suppose to be napping and stayed behind with Uncle Ry. Alexa went home (eventually) and I enjoyed a Grammy party online with some Awesome Mama's!!!! LOL!!!

Today.... Today, is surgery day for Jaelon. He's having his left eye fixed this time, I'm as prepared as I'm going to be. I even slept a solid 5 hours, which was great once I finally fell asleep. So now here I sit, trying to enjoy some yogurt and granola, posting away about our weekend before I head down for my workout. I haven't done one for 2 days but I was busy, hopefully that counts as working out ;)  Happy Monday!!!

It's Friday!! (week in review edition)

This week has been a week of baking. I know I should leave it for wordless Wednesday but I'm sure we'll be doing more AND I will remember to snap some pictures!! So enjoy a special picture edition of part of our week!

We had homemade pizza one night this week, not a weekly dinner but a favourite of ours!

Then I decided to pass some time and make some more cookies, we did oatmeal raison one day and chocolate chip another day!

Jaelon usually gets his own bowl with a little bit of ingredients so he can "mix, mix, mix" as he likes to say. (Really, he's eat, eat, eating!)
"Mmmmm so tasty!"
 "mix mix mix!"
Jaelon's cookies, he spooned the dough out himself to bake the cookies.

Mommy's big cookie! No way was this staying in the house, we took it with us to share at playgroup this morning ;)

It was a great week, look forward to a busy weekend with my Niece sleeping over.

Enjoy the weekend!!

Wordless Wednesday- Baking is fun!!!

The first three shots are from our Christmas baking! It was the first time he was actually in to helping. The last shot, we were making pizza dough. For some reason Jaelon is quite into smelling things, hence the face full of flour!! Watch out Jamie Oliver, Jaelon's on his way ;)

Weekend wrap up

It was rather nice having the whole house to ourselves, just mommy and Jaelon this weekend. Although I did really miss adult conversation and felt a bit lonely, it was still a nice weekend. The weather was great, we went for a couple of walks, played in the backyard and did some baking! Yes, it was a great weekend!

It has me thinking.... time to move??? Why haven't I really made a strong effort to get back into my own spot? Jaelon is beyond happy, I have adult conversation and if I need some ME time for an hour, I don't have to plan it weeks in advance, also it's cheaper. Perhaps it is time to move or perhaps..... well, I don't know!! Having room mates does have it's disadvantages but there are many advantages. It helps when you get along well!

I finally received the information for Jaelon's surgery next week. He does have a cough still so I'm hoping that goes away and he'll be healthy in time. He'll miss his first Valentine's party so we did some baking to take to playgroup tomorrow and did some valentines crafts.  Well that was our weekend, hope you got out and enjoyed the unbelievably nice weather OR the nice cold snow (wherever you may be!)

We're back to Friday!!!

This week has been full of the flu. Fun times, Jaelon caught the flu that's going around. Poor boy.  I knew something was coming as last week he had that rash, Saturday was downhill. By Tuesday he was good to go, we headed out to playgroup where he had a good time as always, by the time we got home he was just wiped out.  Yes, it was a rough couple of days.

Thursday, we headed out to visit my sister. Aside from a slight annoyance, it was a good day, Jaelon had fun and loves being in the car! Today, I think the little trip was a little to much for him just getting over the flu. He was quiet tired and now has developed a cough. We have a week to go before eye surgery for him so hopefully everything works its way out and he is completely healthy in time.

Well that was our week in a nutshell!!  Enjoy the weekend :)
